Equines

Nutmeg

This sweet senior girl came to us from another facility after being saved from the kill pen at the Eugene Livestock Auction. A well-intentioned person bought her from the “kill buyer” in an effort to save her from slaughter but abandoned her at a quarantine facility when they realized they didn’t have the means to care for her. When she arrived at our sanctuary she was underweight, loaded with intestinal parasites, and in need of dental work. Her past experiences left her anxious and somewhat untrusting but she immediately bonded with Pepper (our original sanctuary resident) and her confidence continues to grow. She’s feeling quite at home here and we’re so happy to have this gentle soul with us.

Chaco

Chaco is a Percheron Morgan mix who is  full of life and excited to be living at the sanctuary. A few years ago he was diagnosed with ringbone (a form of arthritis in his feet) thus retiring him from riding.  Because we know that he has inherent value that goes well beyond his ability to perform a specific function, we were happy to accept him from another facility and we're so glad he'll get to spend his golden years with us.

Emma

This sweet filly came to the sanctuary in June 2016. We estimate that she was somewhere around a year and a half old at that time. We accepted her as a transfer from another rescue in town after Lane County Animal Control was able to negotiate her surrender. She was living in a very small paddock full of dangerous debris including wood with nails sticking out,  and sharp metal roofing. She was in this small paddock with her mom, a younger brother and two other horses. She was very underweight, had lice and other skin conditions, and it was clear that she did not feel well. Within two months we had her up to a proper weight, skin issues under control, and she's acting like a young filly learning her way in the world!

Wilbur

What a character! Wilbur is a goofy lovable guy just looking to spend his days bossing the horses around. He has the cutest underbite (as seen here) and is definitely his own donkey who sets his own terms! It is great fun to watch him and Emma playing chase in the pasture.

Precious

Precious is a registered quarter horse who is living the good life at the sanctuary after giving birth to many, many babies. During her last pregnancy she didn't get the best care and nutrition but after being rescued, she was given nothing but the best and she gave birth to a healthy baby girl (her last of 7 that we know of). She is such a sweet, gentle giant.

Pigs

Cheeks

Cheeks came to us from the Oregon coast where he found himself homeless. His family lost their farm and had nowhere for this fella to live. Our small pasture was vacant due to the adoption of the sheep and llama so we were very happy to welcome him. He is a Kunekune pig and we think he was born in 2017. He LOVES belly rubs and hanging out in the shade with his new best buddy, Maybelle.

Maybelle

This sweet pot belly mix is always happy! She started wagging her tail the minute she got here and it has hardly stopped! She was saved from a hoarding situation but the good folks that rescued her had dogs and Maybelle couldn't quite get used to living with them. She has brightened up Cheeks' life beyond measure and brings a smile to everyone's face. These two are pretty bonded at this point so we're hoping to adopt them out together.

Gunter and Rosita

These two are nearly always together so why not profile them that way? Rosita and Gunter were part of a massive pig rescue in 2019 that resulted in nearly 300 pigs needing to be rehomed. These two were born at the staging location for the rescue so they have only known love and compassion. They are completely bonded and will most definitely be adopted together.

Chickens

These beauties were saved from a facility where they were being bred for cockfighting. Fortunately, this beautiful boy had not been subjected to this unimaginable cruelty and we were happy to welcome him and several hens to safety. Red Junglefowl are the ancient ancestors to most domesticated chicken breeds.
