Nutmeg
This sweet senior girl came to us from another facility after being saved from the kill pen at the Eugene Livestock Auction. A well-intentioned person bought her from the “kill buyer” in an effort to save her from slaughter but abandoned her at a quarantine facility when they realized they didn’t have the means to care for her. When she arrived at our sanctuary she was underweight, loaded with intestinal parasites, and in need of dental work. Her past experiences left her anxious and somewhat untrusting but she immediately bonded with Pepper (our original sanctuary resident) and her confidence continues to grow. She’s feeling quite at home here and we’re so happy to have this gentle soul with us.

Chaco
Chaco is a Percheron Morgan mix who is full of life and excited to be living at the sanctuary. A few years ago he was diagnosed with ringbone (a form of arthritis in his feet) thus retiring him from riding. Because we know that he has inherent value that goes well beyond his ability to perform a specific function, we were happy to accept him from another facility and we're so glad he'll get to spend his golden years with us.

ShaeaShaea is a gorgeous black and white paint mare. Her markings are those of a Medicine Hat horse. In First Nations tradition and legend, these special beauties are believed to have a magical ability to protect her rider from injury and death. While her riding days are over due to a persistent injury, we are happy to offer her a safe and comfortable home.

Pigs
MaybelleThis sweet pot belly mix is always happy! She started wagging her tail the minute she got here and it has hardly stopped! She was saved from a hoarding situation but the good folks that rescued her had dogs and Maybelle couldn't quite get used to living with them. She brings a smile to everyone's face.

Gunter and RositaThese two are nearly always together so why not profile them that way? Rosita and Gunter were part of a massive pig rescue in 2019 that resulted in nearly 300 pigs needing to be rehomed. These two were born at the staging location for the rescue so they have only known love and compassion. They are completely bonded and will most definitely be adopted together.

Chickens
These beauties were saved from a facility where they were being bred for cockfighting. Fortunately, this beautiful boy had not been subjected to this unimaginable cruelty and we were happy to welcome him and several hens to safety. Red Junglefowl are the ancient ancestors to most domesticated chicken breeds.
